See why people love dinner with strangers

Write your own

The intimate number of people and structure the game we played about not talking about what we did helped foster some really interesting and great discussions. Also food choices were soooo on point. What is the vetting process for sending out that initial email!? Question on everyones mind. Regardless of what it is, keep find cool and interesting people to connect. Glad I took the step to give this a shot, definitely didn't regret it.

Eric

I enjoyed the experience. I liked that the event took place at a well known and well regarded restaurant and that the people who attended were curated. We seemed to be there for the same reasons. I enjoyed meeting a new group of people, all of whom had no biases for each other and could just be themselves in a safe environment.

Michelle

I found it to be a great experience.  I think that most people are too fearful to do something so bold by themselves but I wish they would do it more often.

Nancy

What made it really special was the quality of the "strangers". Everyone had really great backgrounds and the conversations were so stimulating.

Howard

I loved it! I loved that we didn't talk about our jobs at all, we came from vastly different backgrounds, and we covered a ton of ground -- it was a comfortable, delicious, and unique experience.

Laura

I love the concept, the size of the group, the format and execution.

Frequently asked questions

General Questions

WHAT & WHY
+
-

We think good, engaged people, good food, and good vibes make for great conversations. This is our goal, parity, exploration of our individualities and experiences. Besides, it's fun and even more fun when there's no end goal in mind.

Sometimes "just for fun" means just that -- just for fun :)

This is a passion project by the good folks of Giants & Crowns — it's a labor of love. We’re not looking for press, we're not looking for social media posts, or world domination.

Each night is a product of individuals and what they bring to the table. Much like life dinner is all about the story you're willing to tell/live.

The dinner table is no different :)

FORMAT
+
-

Shared Plates. Family Style.
6 people per night max.
Come as you are.

COST BREAKDOWN
+
-

The cost of a night of dinner is $85.

Here’s why:

Admin.

To keep this project moving forward i.e. search and curation of guests, restaurant bookings, reschedulings, etc. Like most things we'll get better with each day, and find ways to reduce costs. Definitely open to ideas and feedback :)

Food & tip.

Approximately $55-65 goes towards food and food alone (tax and tip included). Drinks are handled separately. Our goal here is to eat well and ensure as much of the night's funds are allocated to great eats and service.

Development.

Whatever is left from our dinner budget at the end of the night is allocated to reinvest into this project. Our secondary goal is to be earmark a portion of the proceeds at the end of the next year to donate to Defy Ventures (https://defyventures.org/), Minds Matter (https://www.mindsmatter.org/), or All Star Code (http://www.allstarcode.org/).

FOOD
+
-

Food for the night is served family style.

In most/all cases food is ordered in advance of all guests arriving, we work to determine a family style offering that will be full and hit every dietary restriction provided by every guest for the night.

Please note this part of the night is a work in progress so we ask that if you have a particularly challenging diet — you know what we mean, your friends know whats up ;) — please note we’ll do our best however we ask that you either provide some slack or respectfully hold off on RSVPing until we're 100% confident we can accommodate the most specific of dietary restrictions.

HOW DID YOU FIND ME & WHY ME?
+
-

Hard work.

It’s a labor of love finding guests, figuring out contact info (first@company.com, etc), and shouldering the flurry of emails that come as a result. We decided a long time ago not to share exactly what sparked interest, however, know that if you've been invited or have been accepted to attend there's something we see and think could make for a splendid evening.

Each night is a product of what each attendee brings to the evening. If you bring your full self as an individual with a mindset of playful discovery then we're confident what we think we saw in you will play out nicely. It always does :)

Hosts of the evening are not privy to how we found guests or why. They just know, like you, that we think the guests in place would be great to have dinner with, that they might be awesome, and that good times could be had with all involved :)

Hope this helps.

CAN I BRING A +1 / INVITE FRIENDS?
+
-

No same night invites. No exceptions.

You are allowed to invite friends to dinner HOWEVER they may not attend the same dinner as you.

We're dining as strangers, so that we're all on the same playing field please keep your invites to nights where you are not also in attendance.

Logistically splitting friends up reduces the shuffling that inevitably results when one of two friends cancel. From our experience when once friends cancels so does the other. It's much more challenging to replace two seats than it is to replace one seat. Shits like these tend to take place last minute reducing the nights headcount and risk driving up the cost of the night.

We are considering an spouse, life partner, exception at a higher price point. TBD here.

Thank you for understanding.

WHO WILL BE AT DINNER?
+
-

Dinners are an eclectic mix of people from around town including but not limited to designers, launchers, producers, photographers, engineers, marketers, educators, etc.

That all said, titles, and work history is not the focus of any night, nor is it why you've been invited to dinner :) This is not about networking. Networking we think is cold and it’s core deeply transactional — that’s not what we want this to be. In our lives our best moments were had around a dinner table. It’s where we learned arithmetic, it’s where we debated Biggie and Tupac with cousins, it’s also where mom, pop, and fam gathered after bouts away. In a similar vein this thing is about learning about one another, breaking bread, and closing the gap that makes us strangers.

Promise, this isn’t a long tail sale for VR headsets or vegan flip flops. Although, if that’s your thing then do your thing. We’re not madatchya :)

HOW IS THIS RELATED TO THE PODCAST?
+
-

It isn't :)

Giants & Crowns is a work in progress, the podcast and this dinner are vehicles for exploration and discovery. Don't think too hard about it. We're just trying stuff, collaborating, discovering, playing, and seeing what happens.

CANCELLATIONS, RESCHEDULING, TRANSFERS BY GUESTS
+
-

All sales are final.

Only one exception -- If we cancel, postpone, or reschedule an evening.

A great deal of attention, energy, is spent to make each night happen while also attempting to keep costs as low as possible. If you must cancel or can’t make it for whatever reason, know that we're bummed but the show must go on. Your seat will be released back to the pool, no refund will be offered, no rescheduling option is available -- no exceptions.
